Kingston Punk Productions presents NOBRO and The OBGMs at the Mansion, Saturday June 18, 2022, with guests JIMBO. Doors open at 8:00 pm, tickets are $15 at the door.

NOBRO is an all-female punk band from Montreal whose influences can be heard loud and clear to listeners familiar with the punk music scene. Vocalist and bassist Kathryn McCaughey says the group pulls inspiration from artists like Jay Reatard, The Damned, and Royal Trux. NOBRO has even co-written songs with members of METZ and Fast Friends.

The band’s latest EP, Sick Hustle, was released in April 2020, followed by their biggest tour yet, alongside Alexisonfire and The Distillers.

With pounding drums from Sarah Dion, shredding riffs from guitarist Karolane Carbonneau, and bongo solos and keyboard licks from master of percussion Lisandre Bourdages, topped with McCaughey’s confident, cocky yell and blistering bass lines, NOBRO is showing they are a rock ’n’ roll force to be reckoned with.

Sharing the stage on this tour with NOBRO is a three-piece black-fronted punk band from Toronto called The OBGMs, who are here to make noise and make you take notice.

Lead vocalist Densil McFarlane says, “Rock ’n’ roll is mostly white suburban kids — that’s what gets promoted. But we are black and we’re out here. I was inspired to make rock music when I saw a black guy onstage, and if someone sees that in us, I hope it will inspire a new generation to go after this.”

The OBGMs started out as a rap trio before McFarlane picked up the guitar and dove into the epic Toronto punk scene. Drummer Colanthony Humphrey and bassist Joseph Brosnan complete the trio, and together they hit the ground running with a new sound.

Musically, The OBGMs bring guitar maelstroms, sing-along anthems, dizzying percussion, and even bongos into the mix. “We’re doing stuff other people aren’t doing,” McFarlane says. “We threw bongos on that!”
