Public engagement for North King’s Town Secondary Plan resumes

The City of Kingston has announced that work has resumed on the North King’s Town Secondary Plan, and two public engagement events are planned for later this month.
A survey is currently open for area residents to provide feedback on what features of the neighbourhood they like and what the City could improve, and two open houses will take place on Jun 12 and 13, 2023.
According to a release from the City, Phase 1 of the project involved a community visioning exercise and preliminary market analysis to guide the Secondary Plan, and took place in 2016 and 2017. Phase 2, which is focused on the preparation of five technical studies – land use, transportation, servicing, cultural heritage and finance implementation – was initiated in 2018, but later paused due to the reallocation of staff resources to another project and to the COVID-19 pandemic response.
“A secondary plan acts as a second layer of the City’s Official Plan by providing more detailed guidance for development within a specific area,” said Sukriti Agarwal, Manager of Policy Planning for the City of Kingston Planning Services. “This is the blueprint for future growth within the North King’s Town area and therefore it is vital that we involve community members and voices in this process.”
In the release, the City noted there are currently three opportunities for community members to get involved, and provided the following details:
- June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. online open house and workshop. Register in advance to receive the event link.
- June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in-person open house and workshop taking place at the Broom Factory located at 305 Rideau Street. Register in advance to reserve a space as capacity is limited.
- Now until June 19 at 4 p.m. complete a short survey to let the City know what has changed in your neighbourhood since work on the project was paused in late 2019, what features of the neighbourhood you like, and what you would improve.
