Princess Street Promenade returns to downtown Kingston

On Saturday, Jul. 30, 2022, Princess Street will be closed to traffic from Division to Ontario Streets for the Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area (BIA)’s Promenade.
“Promenade is a one-day festival designed to promote active living and community involvement in the downtown,” the BIA said in a media release. “From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Princess Street will be closed to vehicular traffic… as local retailers, restaurants, salons, spas and more take to the street with special offers, giveaways, prize draws and fun activities for the whole family.”
This is the first Promenade since 2019. In July 2021, downtown merchants held a sidewalk-sale-type event, without much of the fanfare that typically accompanies a full-blown Promenade.
This year, according to the release, a number of community groups will also be in attendance, with activities such as obstacle courses, building challenges for kids, and face painting.
Affected downtown streets will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow for set-up and tear-down of the activities, the BIA stated. Side streets between Ontario and Division (with the exception of Barrie Street and Bagot Street) will also be closed for the festival. According to the BIA, this better allows for the safe passage of pedestrians across streets during the event. Access to public parking lots will not be affected.
Environment Canada is calling for 27°C and Sunny. Knock wood.
Obviously, these people have little concern over the spread of the seventh wave of Covid, (which is now more widespread in the Kingston area than it was last summer, when preventative mandates closed this down).
