KFL&A Public Health has been notified that a student at Gateway Community Education Centre tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday Dec. 14, 2020, according to a release from Limestone District School Board (LDSB) dated Tuesday Dec. 15, 2020.
The Gateway Community Education Centre is located at 33 Advance Avenue, Napanee, and provides alternative education experiences to support high-school-aged and adult students earning an OSSD, or who need a few courses to graduate, want to upgrade existing credits, earn credits while they work, or transition to college (students under age 21.)
LDSB says there is no risk to students or staff, and as such, no cohorts will be required to isolate at this time and the school will remain open.
“We are sharing this information with families to ensure they have accurate information,” LDSB said in the release. “No further information will be released to maintain privacy.”
KFL&A Public Health and the school are taking all necessary steps to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community.
The school board encourages families in school communities to continue to monitor and screen your student daily for symptoms of COVID-19 as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting. Please continue to follow all public health guidelines which include maintaining physical distance, wearing face coverings, and cleaning your hands frequently.
