Porch thief facing weapons-related charges

Kingston Police responded quickly and have laid five charges against a man who stole a package from the front porch of a downtown residence.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, when the man took a package from the front porch of a Patrick Street address. As the man was running away with the package, a neighbour confronted him and became the man’s target as he fired an air rifle at the neighbour as he fled.

According to Const. Ash Gutheinz, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, officers were called to the scene and located the man in the area of Cowdy Street and Adelaide Street at approximately 12:15 p.m.

The man was arrested and, upon being searched, police located a small quantity of a substance suspected to by crystal methamphetamine, as well as the air pistol.

The 26-year-old local man was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for committing an offence
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Unlawfully possessing a Schedule 1 substance
