A local individual is facing multiple charges after members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit conducted a vehicle investigation in the area of Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard last week.

On Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, police conducted the investigation and the sole occupant of the vehicle was observed in possession of a small quantity of suspected fentanyl, according to a media release from Kingston Police.

“Upon arrest and further investigation, police located 47.9 grams of suspected dyed carfentanil, 65 grams of purple fentanyl, 6.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a set of brass knuckles and a large amount of Canadian currency,” police said. “Carfentanil, which is used as a tranquilizing agent for large mammals, is a synthetic opioid that is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl and can present a serious risk to public safety.”

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were later released on conditions with a future court date.

Police said that the 38-year-old local individual was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, proceeds of crime and possession of a prohibited weapon.
