Police seek to identify suspect in string of break-ins, thefts in downtown Kingston

Kingston Police have released the above stills obtained from security footage and are requesting public assistance to identify the person pictured, the suspect in multiple break-and-enter and theft cases.

According to police, multiple break-ins and thefts have been reported by residents of at least three apartment buildings in the area of Ontario Street and Lower Union Street since late December 2023.

“In one occurrence, the suspect used a pry tool to enter the front door of an apartment building and then proceeded to the underground parking garage where numerous vehicles had their windows smashed out,” Kingston Police said in a press release on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

“The suspect then stole various items that had been locked inside the damaged vehicles.”

Police described the suspect as having a slim-to-medium build, and noted they were wearing a blue medical face mask “to help conceal their identity.” At the time of at least one of the incidents, the suspect was wearing a “distinct red jacket with a hood and vertical zippers over the chest area and white striping over both shoulders and arms,” police said. At that time, the suspect was also wearing black pants, black gloves, and black running shoes with white soles and logos, as well as a large, grey backpack.
