Update: Identified – Police seek suspect after window smashed at downtown Kingston arena

Update (Wednesday, May 24, 2023):
The suspect involved in the destruction of a window at the downtown arens has been identified after Kingston Police appealed to the community for assistance late last week.

Kingston Police originally requested public assistance on Friday, May 19, 2023, seeking to identify the male suspect, who was captured on security footage outside the arena. According to police, the suspect proceeded to try to enter various doors of the arena at this location and when he found them all to be locked he removed the lid off of a nearby garbage can and threw it through a large double pane glass window.

On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, Kingston Police thanked the public for their assistance in the matter, noting that the suspect had been positively identified and arrested.

“A 47-year-old individual from Kingston was charged with Mischief over $5,000 and released from the Kingston Police headquarters with a future court date,” police said in a press release.

Kingstonist has removed the photo of the suspect which police had released in connection with this case in order to avoid future confusion.

Kingston Police have released the above images and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in a mischief occurrence in downtown Kingston

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the suspect pictured was walking in the area of Ontario Street and Tragically Hip Way in downtown Kingston. According to a release from Kingston Police, the suspect proceeded to try to enter various doors of the arena at this location and when he found them all to be locked he removed the lid off of a nearby garbage can and threw it through a large double pane glass window.

The suspect reportedly then fled from the scene running toward Queen Street. The suspect’s image was captured on security video, as seen above.

Kingston Police described the suspect as Caucasian, with a slim to medium build, and thinning short brown hair. They appeared to be clean-shaven and were wearing a maroon long-sleeved sweater with lighter-coloured shoulders, knee-length grey shorts and grey running shoes with white soles.
