Police seek public assistance to locate missing 14-year-old female

UPDATE (Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019): Lila Smith, 14, was located safely on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 in Mississauga by the Peel Regional Police.  Police had attempted to locate Smith for nearly two months after she had first been reported missing on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019.

“Kingston Police would like to take this opportunity to thank the public and all who assisted in facilitating the safe return of this young female,” Kingston Police said in a press release.

Update (Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019): Lila Smith, 14, is sill missing and was last seen in person by her guardian the second week of August 2019. Smith’s family have reached out with the following further details:

  • Smith was allegedly last seen in Toronto at a shelter
  • She may be going by the name of Samantha Smith
  • She has a heart tattoo on her lower arm and two small cross tattoos on the right side of her chest
  • She has a nose piercing
  • She may be wearing the necklace shown in the photo above
  • Smith has no ID on her
  • She is known to wear her hair down and was last seen wearing a white Nike jacket, jean shorts, Champion sandals, and carrying a black Jordan backpack

Kingston Police have released the above photo and are asking for public assistance in locating a missing female youth.

According to Kingston Police, Lila Smith, 14, was reported missing on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019. She was last seen in person by her guardian approximately three weeks . Smith had been in regular contact with her family and friends via text messages and social media until approximately one week ago. While Smith continues to post on social media sites, she is no longer responding to family and friends, Kingston Police said in a press release on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.

Smith’s family have recently observed content on her social media accounts which indicates she may be in Toronto, however, it is possible that she is still in the Kingston area.

Smith is described as a Caucasian female standing 5’3” tall and weighing 160 lbs, with a medium build, brown eyes, and light brown hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. UPDATE (Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019): It was previously reported that Lila Smith may have been with fellow missing youth, Kayla Hartwick, however, Hartwick was located on Monday, Sept. 2, 2019. Lila Smith is still reportedly missing.
