Police nab nighttime prowler with expensive stolen bike

A man behaving suspiciously around residences in the downtown core has been arrested and charged after police found him to be in possession of a stolen bicycle.

On Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the accused man was seen prowling near houses in the area of Queen Street and Sydenham Street. Police were contacted and responding officers located the accused man walking south on Sydenham Street with a bicycle. Officers also located a backpack near a residence that the accused had been seen at, and the backpack contained various items including knives, needles, and empty dime bags.

The accused was arrested and further investigation found that the bicycle he had – which is valued at approximately $1,000 – had been reported stolen on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019.

The 34-year-old Kingston man was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, prowling at night, and breach of probation.
