Police discover numerous break-in tools following early morning cyclist stop

A local man has been arrested and charged after a Kingston Police officer stopped him for cycling in the dark without a light.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, a patrol officer stopped the cyclist who was travelling southbound on Division Street. The bike did not have a light on it, as required by the Highway Traffic Act, and the man was carrying a backpack and a duffel bag.

When police asked the man to identify himself, he provided someone else’s name, according to a press release from Kingston Police. When asked again, the cyclist still wasn’t forthright, and he was arrested for obstructing police. When his bags were searched, police found numerous break-in tools.

The 28-year-old Kingston man was charged with obstructing police, possession of break-in instruments, and breach of probation.
