Police confirm one fatality following Charles Street fire

One individual passed away in the large fire that broke out on Charles Street last week, according to Kingston Police.

The fire, which began at approximately 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, completely destroyed one home, while the houses adjacent to it sustained damage. The Ontario Fire Marshal became involved in the investigation later the same day. Since then, no updates regarding injuries, cost of damage, or possible cause of the fire have been issued from Kingston Fire and Rescue, who solely confirmed that the investigation remained ongoing.

Today, Monday, May 16, 2022, Kingston Police have confirmed that one person died as a result of the fire.

“An individual was discovered deceased within the structure. The Kingston Police is working with the Coroner’s Office to determine the individual’s identity. As such, no next of kin notifications have been made by the Kingston Police,” Const. Anthony Colangeli said.

Police said that the on-scene portion of the fire investigation has now been completed; however, Kingston Fire and Rescue and the Ontario Fire Marshal continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
