Kingston Police have arrested and charged a man from Ottawa to conclude their investigation into a violent assault and robbery that took place last summer.

The assault occurred just after 1 a.m. on Friday, Jul. 12, 2019 in Megaffin Park in Kingston’s Inner Harbour. According to police, the accused man approached two victims from behind and stuck both victims over the head with an unknown blunt-edged weapon. Both victims suffered serious injuries as a result, and the accused man fled the scene with bags he’d stolen from each victim.

While the ensuing investigation led to the arrest of one man, it also resulted in the Kingston Police Major Crimes Unit identifying the other accused man and determining his whereabouts. On Sunday, Mar. 15, 2020, detectives with Kingston Police attended a residence in Ottawa and arrested the accused. He was taken to Kingston Police Headquarters and held to attend a bail hearing.

The 35-year-old Ottawa man is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of robbery with a weapon.
