Picton man charged after head-on collision

A head-on collision in Prince Edward County (PEC) recently led to a dangerous operation charge for a Picton resident.

In a media release, the PEC detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stated that on Monday, May 13, 2024, shortly after 7:30 a.m., an officer spotted a pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 62.

Before the officer could attempt to stop the vehicle, it fled and turned onto Union Road, and then collided with a car. The driver of the car was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

John Spencer, age 61, of Picton, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over the posted limit

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton in mid-June 2024.
