Picton man charged after crashing into ditch, private property in Napanee

A single vehicle collision, which resulted in damages for a private fence in Greater Napanee, has led to impaired driving charges for one Picton man.

According to the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were dispatched to the scene of a reported single vehicle collision at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 23, 2023. The collision occurred on County Road 8 near Little Creek Road, the OPP said in a press release the following day.

The vehicle hit a guardrail before exiting the roadway, travelling down an embankment, and coming to a rest in the ditch, according to police.

“In an attempt to get back on the road, the vehicle damaged a fence on private property and ended up stuck,” the OPP said.

After arriving on scene, officers determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the L&A OPP Detachment for further processing, according to police.

As a result, Logan Heard, 22, of Picton, was charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drug
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit

Heard was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in early May 2023. His licence was automatically suspended for 90 days, with further licence suspension possible upon conviction. Additionally, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. Heard will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
