Phone scam targets Utilities Kingston and Hydro One clients

Utilities Kingston is warning to all customers to be vigilant after several clients reported receiving fraudulent calls demanding payments.

Customers are reportedly receiving calls from those claiming to be from Utilities Kingston or Hydro One. The scammers threaten those contacted with having their utilities disconnected if a payment is not made immediately.

Utilities Kingston wants customers to know this is a scam, and their company has a standard procedure for long overdue accounts which involve multiple notices by mail prior to any disconnection of services. The company suggests customers do the following should they receive a suspicious call:

  • Do not provide any personal information, such as utility account numbers of credit card information.
  • Collect any information possible about the caller
  • Contact their utility provider to report the incident. Utilities Kingston customer service can be reached at 613-546-0000, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
