PEC resident charged after investigation into $100k fraud case

An individual from Prince Edward County is facing multiple fraud-related charges after an investigation by the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
According to a release from the OPP dated Thursday, Jul. 20, 2023, police received a report of fraud in October 2022 and conducted an investigation, looking into conduct spanning several years.
With the assistance of the Prince Edward County Crime Unit, an individual has now been arrested and charged in relation to the ongoing fraud investigation. According to the release, the report of fraud the OPP received was a loss of more than $100,000.
Carol Ryan, age 64, from Prince Edward County was charged with the following offences:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Theft over $5,000
- Criminal Breach of Trust
- Forgery
- Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
Ryan was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in August 2023.
