A Kingston resident has been charged by police after a violent altercation occurred at a bar and restaurant in the downtown core.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2023, Kingston Police and Frontenac Paramedics were dispatched to The Toucan, a longtime bar and restaurant Princess Street abutting Rochleau Court. According to police, a patron at the establishment had been asked to leave, but did not do so without a fight – literally. The patron assaulted to staff members of the bar as they were made to leave the premises, Kingston Police confirmed the following morning.

“The patron struck two of the establishment’s staff members before leaving,” Constable Anthony Colangeli said in response to Kingstonist inquiries.

“One staff member received no injuries, the other was assessed by paramedics and did not require further medical attention.”

Responding officers with Kingston Police arrived at the location, and the 38-year-old Kingston resident was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
