Parcel thief nabbed by officer who witnessed theft

A local man has been arrested and charged after he was observed walking onto a front porch in downtown Kingston by a nearby police officer.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, a Kingston Police officer looked on as a man was riding a bike on Clergy Street near Johnson Street. The cyclist came to a stop and was then seen walking up to the front porch of a residence on Brock Street. The officer was familiar with the man and knew that he was on conditions not to be on Clergy Street.
The accused man was arrested and, upon being searched, the officer found he was in possession of a Canada Post parcel belonging to someone else. The man was also in possession of numerous items of stolen property, according to a press release from Kingston Police.
The 49-year-old Kingston man was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and breaching his bail conditions.
