Those living in Napanee needn’t worry about an increased presence of police officers and vehicles in the town tonight, as both will be the result of an evening training exercise.

Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as those with the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine Unit, will be involved in the training, the OPP announced on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) just after 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023. The post said the training “will enhance their skills to better allow them to keep our communities safe.”

Kingstonist reached out to the L&A OPP for further information, so as to inform the community about where and when the training exercises would take place. In response, Acting Sergeant Aaron Miller, Media Coordinator for the OPP East Region, said that officers are not aware of the location(s) where the training will occur. He did, however, note that, should Napanee residents observe any officers dressed in their green tactical uniforms with dogs or drones, those activities are part of the training.

Miller explained that the activity will be “scenario based training to enhance officer skills to be able to further our commitment to public safety.” The training will take place in the Town of Greater Napanee tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, from 7 to 11 p.m., according to the OPP.
