OPP: Three drivers facing charges, one under investigation after long weekend

Over the May long weekend officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged impaired drivers in three separate incidences, with a fourth still under investigation.
At approximately 4:53 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, the L&A OPP were dispatched to a call for service regarding a single motor vehicle collision on County Road 8. According to a release from the OPP, the initial information received was that a single motor vehicle had crashed into a tree in front of a residence on County Road 8.
Officers determined that the lone driver of the reported vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested, OPP said.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged John Sweet, age 31, of Deseronto, with:
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
The next evening, Sunday, May 21, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., L&A OPP were dispatched to a call for service regarding a collision with a car and motorcycle on Belleville Road and Hwy 49. According to the OPP, the motorcycle driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Officers observed that the driver of the motorcycle was showing signs of impairment. According to the release, the motorcycle driver has not yet been charged as the collision is still under investigation.
On the same evening, at approximately 9 p.m., L&A OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that ran a red light at Centre Street and Jim Kimmett Boulevard in Greater Napanee. According to the release, officers determined that the lone driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged Alexander Ciotti, age 40, of Deseronto, with:
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
And lastly, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, L&A OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling 141 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Bath Road in Loyalist Township. According to the release, officers determined that the lone driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged Mitchell Storey, age 27, of Loyalist Township with:
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood
- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Stunt driving (driving at excessive speed)
All accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in June 2023. Their licences were suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.
