OPP seek to identify ‘person(s) of interest’ after trailer theft in Napanee

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released the above images and are requesting public assistance to identify “person(s) of interest in the theft of a utility trailer.”

According to the OPP, officers with the L&A Detachment received a report from the Canadian Tire location in Napanee on Monday, Mar. 4, 2024, indicating that one of their utility trailers had been stolen from the store’s property the night before. The store reported that the trailer was taken at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 3, 2024, from the north end of the store parking lot, where it had been locked up.

In a press release on Thursday, Mar. 14, 2024, police detailed that the suspect vehicle backed up to the trailer, and someone cut the lock off the trailer before hooking it up to the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then “drove south through the parking lot with no trailer lights on, past the gas station, and parked by the Beer Store.”

“The suspect then secured the trailer and hooked up the lights. The suspect vehicle and trailer were last seen heading North on County Road 41,” the OPP said.

Police described the stolen item as a True North 83-inch by 16-foot tandem axle utility trailer with galvanized steel construction and a treated wood floor. The suspect vehicle that towed the trailer away is believed to be a light-coloured (possibly white), larger-style SUV, police said.

The OPP would like to speak to the owner/driver of the SUV in question.

Anyone that recognizes the vehicle (pictured above) and/or anyone who has surveillance video footage of the incident is asked to contact the L&A OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those who wish to remain anonymous can submit a tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.ontariocrimestopers.ca.
