OPP respond to stabbing incident near Ernestown Secondary School

Earlier today, Thursday, Mar. 9, 2023, families at Odessa Public School and Ernestown Secondary School received a letter from the Limestone District School Board, informing them of an incident between two students that occurred off school property at lunch hour.
“An Odessa Public School student assaulted an Ernestown Secondary School student with a knife. Staff responded and emergency and police services were called and attended the scene,” the letter read. “No one was seriously injured, and the perpetrator was apprehended by the police.”
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident near the Odessa schools just before 11:30 a.m. Due to the involvement of youths in the incident, police will not disclose further information. The school board noted that there is no further threat to student or staff safety.
“This is an active police investigation, so we are unable to provide further details,” the LDSB stated.
In the letter, the board suggested families with questions or concerns can reach out to the principals or other administrators at the involved schools.
“Additional support services are available at the schools. The board and school staff take such incidents seriously and will continue to work to ensure the safety and well-being of all students,” the school board advised.
