OPP respond to ‘major incident’ in Millhaven

OPP responded to what they are characterizing as a “major incident” involving an armed and dangerous individual in the area of Highway 33 and County Road 4 in Millhaven, on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020.
Some reports from residents in the area indicate that the incident involved a motor vehicle collision, with a male exiting a vehicle with a firearm, and subsequently discharging it. OPP have not confirmed those details.
Neighbouring residents were asked to remain indoors for about an hour while a heavy police presence, including a K-9 unit, investigated the incident and searched for the suspect.
All roadways in the area were closed and the Amherst Island ferry was put on hold at the Milhaven dock as a precaution.
Shortly after 8p.m. OPP confirmed that they had taken the suspect into custody and that there was no further public safety risk.
A 27-year-old from Loyalist Township is now facing several charges following the incident.
