OPP report fatality after train collision with pedestrian in Tyendinaga

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reporting a fatality after a pedestrian was struck by a train in Tyendinaga.
The incident took place on the CN rail line just east of Wyman Road in Tyendinaga at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 17, 2020. OPP and CN Rail are currently investigating.
According to the OPP, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene, and there is no indication of any foul play.
“The victim has tentatively been identified as a resident of the Kingston area. The investigation is continuing under direction of the Regional Coroner’s Office,” the OPP said in a press release.
OPP East Region Spokesman Bill Dickson said that the fatality has no apparent connection to recent protest activity in the area. Beginning on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, demonstrators gathered at the rail crossing at Wyman Road in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en anti-pipeline movement, and have maintained a presence there since.
