UPDATE (Tuesday, Mar. 23, 2021):
Charges have been laid against a Northumberland County resident following an assault on an officer which occurred on Sunday, Mar. 21, 2021.
Shortly before 1 a.m., on the above date, an officer from the Quinte West Detachment had conducted a traffic stop of a pick-up truck on Highway 14, just west of Highway 62 in Quinte West. According to a release from the OPP, the officer’s cruiser was struck by the other vehicle and the officer suffered stab wounds in an assault. The officer is recovering in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 9 a.m. that morning, following an extensive search with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Aviation Services, Durham Regional Police Air Support Unit (ASU) and the Belleville Police Service, the accused was arrested without incident.
Charles Parkinson, 26 years old of Northumberland County has been charged with:
- Attempt to commit murder, and
- Disarming a peace officer.
Parkinson has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court by video on March 25, 2021.

The “shelter in place” for the Foxboro area has been cancelled as the wanted individual has now been arrested. OPP advise that while an individual has been taken into custody in the area, a large police presence will remain in the area for much of the morning as the investigation continues.
Residents of the Foxboro area, northwest of Belleville, are being advised to shelter in place and to keep doors locked as a large police contingent searches for the suspect, considered to be dangerous.
On March 21, 2021 shortly before 1:00 a.m., an officer from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police had conducted a traffic stop on Highway 14 just west of Highway 62. The officer’s cruiser was struck by the other vehicle and the officer was stabbed in an assault. The officer remains hospitalized at Kingston General Hospital with serious injuries.
The wanted individual left the scene on foot.
Charles “Chuck” Parkinson is wanted for attempted murder. He is described as:
26 years old
173 cms (5’8″) 61 kgs (134 lbs)
Brown hair, brown eyes
Last seen in grey sweats, black sweater, black hat with red logo
