Update: arrested – OPP looking for individual wanted for violent offences

Update (Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at 11 a.m.):
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chase Lahaise, 30, of Smiths Falls has been located and arrested. This comes after two warrants were issued for the arrest of Lahaise due to two separate violent assaults that occurred in Lennox and Addington County.

Lahaise was located in Smiths Falls, Acting Sgt. Erin Cranton, Media Coordinator for the East Region OPP, said in response to inquiries from Kingstonist.

“The accused was arrested on February 22, 2023, by the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Smiths Falls Police Service,” the OPP said in a press release on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023.

Lahaise has been charged with:

  • Two counts of assault
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm
  • Break and enter at a residence
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Two counts of mischief to property

According to the OPP, Lahaise remains in custody pending a bail hearing later today, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023.

Update (Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at 10:44 a.m.):
In response to inquiries from Kingstonist, Acting Sgt. Erin Cranton, Media Coordinator for the East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), explained that there are two warrants issued for the arrest of Chase Lahaise. Both of these warrants are in relation to two separate violent assaults that occured in the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County area, Cranton said.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released the above photo and are asking for public assistance to locate 30-year-old Chase Lahaise, who is wanted for violent offences.

Those in eastern Ontario will be familiar with Lahaise’s image as it was widely circulated during an emergency alert late last week. Lahaise is from Smiths Falls, and is described by police as 6’3″ (190 cm) tall, weighing 152 lbs (69 kg), with blue eyes and brown hair.

According to a media release dated Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, arrest warrants have been issued for the following charges:

  • Two counts of assault
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Break and enter a dwelling house
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Two counts of mischief to property

“If you see this individual, do not approach him and call the police immediately,” OPP said. “Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.”

Kingstonist has inquired with the OPP as to what the above charges stem from. Updates will be provided if/when possible.
