OPP lay two impaired driving charges in South Frontenac

On Tuesday, Jun. 15, 2021, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two individuals with impaired driving in separate incidents in South Frontenac Township.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on that same date members of the South Frontenac and Leeds Detachments of the OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver north bound on road 38 in South Frontenac Township. According to a release from OPP, police located and observed the vehicle travelling in an erratic manner.  

The driver was taken to the South Frontenac Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer. As a result of the investigation officer’s seized a quantity of suspected Fentanyl, OPP said.

As a result of this investigation Courtney Durance, age 32 of South Frontenac, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, fentanyl
  • Driving while under suspension

Durance had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused will be responsible for all related fees and fines. He was held for bail and will have his next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston in July, 2021.

The second incident occurred just before 10 p.m. near Verona. Officers of the South Frontenac Detachment of the OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired ATV driver also on road 38 in South Frontenac Township.

Police said they located the suspect vehicle at a nearby gas station. According to a release from OPP, the driver refused to provide a breath sample into the Approved Screening Device (ASD). 

As a result of the investigation, OPP arrested and charged Hunter Turner, age 21, of Kingston with operation while impaired and refusal to comply with demand.

Turner was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston in July, 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Turner will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
