OPP lay charges after sexual assault in Picton

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest after receiving a report of a sexual assault which occurred in the parking lot of a business on Main Street, in Picton, Ontario.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 22, 2021, members from the OPP Prince Edward County Detachment responded to the report, and were dispatched to investigate.

As a result of further investigation, a 22 year old individual from Prince Edward County was arrested on Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2021, and has been charged with sexual assault, according to a release from OPP, dated Friday, Mar. 26, 2021. OPP say there was no risk to public safety.

“Police would not disclose the age or gender of the victim,” the OPP told Kingstonist in a email. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim. 

The accused has been released on an undertaking to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date.
