OPP lay charges after fatal ATV collision in Centre Hastings

A 45-year-old Centre Hastings resident is facing criminal charges after an 8-year-old died due to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to reports of a single ATV collision at a residential property on Highway 62 in the Municipality of Centre Hastings.   

According to a release from the OPP, an 8-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

As a result, the 45-year-old from Centre Hastings who was operating the ATV has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation causing death
  • Operation causing death
  • Operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Central Hasting OPP continues to investigate with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Reconstructionist.
