Update (8 p.m.): Highway 401 is now reopened.

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, officers from the Lennox and Addington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a serious collision on Highway 401 eastbound, as well as several collisions on Highway 401 westbound in the Greater Napanee area.

The collisions all took place just as a storm cell moved through the area. One collision took place on the westbound 401 east of Brandon Creek and west of County Road 4 involving a tractor trailer, a pickup truck towing a trailer, and two cars. A separate tractor trailer jackknifed across both westbound lanes of the highway, according to the OPP. The westbound 401 is now closed and an emergency detour is in place. Vehicles must exit Highway 401 at County Road 4, and continue to County Road 2 west to Palace Road and north on Palace Road to enter back onto the 401.
