OPP investigating fatal collision on train tracks near Gananoque

The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision between a vehicle and a passenger train in the Gananoque area.
Just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, OPP officers responded to reports that a train struck a car on Pykeview Drive in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township. According to a release from the OPP, the driver and lone occupant, a 75-year-old male and local resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
OPP said that out of respect for the privacy of the victim’s family, they will not be releasing his name. CN Police and CN Rail were engaged and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
Train traffic was stopped until just after 10 p.m., and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2023.
