OPP investigating fatal 401 pileup

The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police continues to investigate a series of motor vehicle collisions on Highway 401, east of the City of Brockville.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. on December 11, 2019 officers responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on the westbound lanes. A second collision occurred in the same area moments later, involving eight vehicles, including tractor trailers. An occupant of one of the vehicles was fatally injured as a result of the crash. There were several other collisions following the first two.
Approximately 25 motor vehicles were involved in the crashes.
The westbound lanes of Hwy 401 between Maitland and Brockville remain closed.
Grenville OPP officers, Brockville City Police, Leeds Grenville EMS, Leeds Fire Department and OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene to assist.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and the roadway remains closed.
