OPP investigating domestic assault with a weapon in Greater Napanee

Members of the Lennox & Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault with an edged weapon at a residence in the town of Greater Napanee at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.

According to a release from the OPP, the assault with the weapon had occurred earlier that day, at approximately 10 a.m. Investigation revealed that on that date, around 5 a.m., a 52-year-old male suspect attended the residence, uttered death threats, and damaged a vehicle. The suspect then departed and returned to the residence at approximately 10 a.m where he then assaulted a 56-year old male with an edged weapon before leaving the scene, according to the OPP. 

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, OPP said.

As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have arrested and charged a 52-year-old male of Greater Napanee, with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder;
  • Aggravated Assault;
  • Two counts of Mischief ;
  • Two counts of Utter threats;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; and
  • Fail to comply with Undertaking. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on January 4, 2022.
