OPP investigating Amherstview bank robbery

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating an alleged robbery at a bank in Amherstview on Monday, Mar. 13, 2023.
“Just before noon, an unknown male dressed in black, entered a financial institution in Amherstview, demanding cash,” OPP confirmed in a statement on Monday afternoon. “The person of interest is described as a white male, approximately 5’8″ – 5’10” and 170lbs – 180lbs…He was last seen fleeing on foot northbound on Speers Boulevard. It is believed the person of interest then entered the driver’s side of a white sedan before leaving the area.”

A heavy police presence remained on scene surrounding the BMO bank branch on Speers Boulevard in the early afternoon, continuing a search for the suspect.

Through the early afternoon, an OPP K-9 unit attempted a track of the suspect while officers in cruisers searched surrounding neighbourhoods.
The bank branch remained closed as of 2 p.m. and OPP said that the branch would likely remain closed until Wednesday morning. ATM services remained available in the lobby area, OPP said. It is unknown how much, if any, money was taken from the branch. According to OPP, no weapons were seen. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

“Officers (are) looking to identify the person pictured,” police said in the release. “Call 1-888-310-1122 if observed or if you have security or dashcam footage.”
