OPP charge two individuals with impaired driving in as many days

Lennox and Addington (L&A) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have charged two drivers with impaired driving over the past two days. This comes one day after OPP released details of multiple charges laid in the Greater Napanee area over the long weekend.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, officers were dispatched to an address in Stone Mills Township in response to a traffic complaint. According to a release from the OPP, officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested.
Donald Hartwick, 37 years old, of Napanee, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The previous day, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Brennan Crescent in Loyalist Township. OPP said that officers located the vehicle and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.
Baheetharan Kanagasundaram, 51 years old, of Toronto, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – drugs
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
Both Hartwick and Kanagasundaram were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licences were suspended for 90 days and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
