A boat out on Loughborough Lake had a police escort back to shore, after members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) did a routine patrol of the lake.

On social media, the OPP noted that their patrol, which took place on Friday, Jul. 5, 2024, had “disappointing results”.

“A check of a pontoon boat revealed the operator to be short 7 lifejackets,” OPP detailed. “In their haste to get on the water, they neglected to check for safety equipment.”

According to police, the vessel was escorted back to safety, and the operator was charged for the lifejacket infraction and received several warnings as well.

“We can not stress this enough, LIFEJACKETS SAVE LIVES!” the OPP East Region concluded in their social media post.
