OPP charge Kingstonian for speeding, using cellphone on Highway 401

A Kingston man is facing charges after he was stopped by officers with the Thousand Islands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for speeding last week.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 4, 2019, the OPP officers stopped the driver on Highway 401 for driving 56 km over the speed limit. Not only was the driver using his cellphone while speeding on the busy highway, but an investigation found that the he had been driving while under a driving suspension for a previous conviction for using a cellphone while driving.

The 19-year-old Kingston man was charged with stunt driving, driving while under suspension, and driving while using a handheld wireless device. He is scheduled to answer to the charges at the Brockville Provincial Offences Court at a later date.
