OPP charge Amherstview driver with drug possession, impaired driving

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a local driver with impaired driving.

Just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, officers were conducting a general patrol in the area of Deseronto when they observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound on Deseronto Road. According to a release from the OPP, officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result of an investigation, the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

Derek Osborne, 33 years old, of Amherstview, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine

Osborne was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in December 2022. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will be responsible for all released fees and fines.
