OPP asking for public assistance to locate missing Kingston woman

UPDATE: Edith Thornton was found, safe and sound, on September 25th.

ORIGINAL: Officers of the Rideau Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing an investigation into a missing Kingston woman.

On September 24, 2018 at approximately 6:00 PM Rideau Lakes OPP and Lanark OPP officers responded to a rural area near Westport in response to a missing person.

Edith Thornton, 86 years old of Kingston was last seen at a cottage just outside of Westport at about 4:30 p.m. when she left for a walk.

The OPP’s Canine, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Helicopter and Marine unit are currently assisting with the search.

Thornton is described as:

•Height 5’10”

•Average build

•Believed to be wearing a turquoise fleece turtleneck, brown slacks and black shoes
