OPP arrest individual after report of barricaded person in Napanee

Earlier today, Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, members of the Lennox & Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person barricaded in an RV on Dairy Avenue in Greater Napanee.

According to a release from the OPP, the report came in at approximately 12:40 p.m. The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and L&A County OPP officers attended the scene and made contact with the lone male.

“The male had made previous comments that he had a rifle,” OPP stated. “Dairy Avenue was shut down to ensure the safety of the public. At 1:01 p.m. police were able to talk the male out of the RV and the male was taken into custody without incident.”

The OPP noted that there was no gun located, and the investigation is ongoing. The road was opened back up shortly after the incident.

 As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged Burton Irving, age 62, of Kingston, Ontario, with:

  • Uttering death threats

According to the release, the accused will be held to attend a bail hearing.
