OPP arrest driver after multiple collisions on 401 near Kingston

On August 9, 2019 shortly before 8:00 p.m., the Leeds Detachment of the OPP say they received reports of a vehicle travelling westbound on the 401 at a high rate of speed and colliding with multiple vehicles.
As police responded and deployed a spike belt, an additional collision occurred before officers were able to safely bring the suspect vehicle to a stop near Highway 15. Minor injuries were sustained in that collision and the involved parties were transported to hospital.
As a result of the investigation, George Wanigwan, 29-years-old and from Colborne, Ontario is facing the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges:
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Fail to Stop for Police
• Resist Arrest
• Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.
He is being held in police custody for a bail hearing to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on August 12, 2019.
