OPP apprehend suspect after contraband seized at Bath Institution

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is crediting “the vigilance of staff members” after a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized at Bath Institution.
According to CSC, a package entered the facility through a “suspected throw-over” and was seized by staff on Saturday, May 28, 2022. The contraband seized included 36 grams of tobacco, 18 grams of cannabis, 79 grams of shatter (cannabis concentrate), a cell phone and accessories.
CSC said that a suspect was apprehended at the time of the seizure, in collaboration with the Lennox and Addington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
In a media release, CSC said they use a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering their institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions,” CSC said.
