Opening of LaSalle Causeway to marine traffic delayed

This year, the LaSalle Causeway will not be opening for marine traffic as it would normally, according to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).
The bridge is normally raised at set times each day to allow larger marine vessels to pass through. Due to the current restrictions being put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those opening will not start at the beginning of May this year.
The delay is occurring “in order to respect provincial travel restrictions and to align with the Parks Canada decision to delay the opening of the Rideau Canal,” PSPC said in a public service announcement on Wednesday, Apr. 29, 2020.
The start of bridge operations for marine traffic under the LaSalle Causeway will be delayed until at least Tuesday, May 12, 2020. PSPC will continue to operate the bridge for commercial traffic by request with 24 hours’ notice.
“Public Services and Procurement Canada continues to encourage users to exercise caution when travelling on the waterway near the bridge and thanks them for their patience.”
