One person seriously injured in 401 collision

The Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the OPP is investigating a collision on Hwy 401, just east of Shannonville Road in which one person suffered serious injuries.

The collision happened at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning in the westbound lanes, just east of the Shannonville overpass. 

OPP say a tractor trailer was reported to be driving erratically and collided with a second tractor trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver, a 40 year old from Mississauga, was air lifted to hospital by orange ambulance with serious but not life threatening injuries, according to OPP.

The westbound lanes of the 401 were closed for a period of time between Deseronto Rd and Shannonville Rd. The highway has since opened one lane and traffic may pass slowly through.

The Emergency Detour Route is still set in place at Deseronto Rd north to Blessington Rd and then south on Shannonville Road back onto the highway to help with the traffic congestion until the highway fully opens.

L&A County OPP remain on scene and are asking motorists to use caution and have patience as the investigation continues.
