One person dead after crash at Shannonville Motorsports Park

Update (Monday, Jun. 12, 2023):
The Super Series Motorcycle League has now confirmed the identity of the person who passed away after a crash at the Shannonville Motorsports Park.

Jose Azevedo of Newmarket, Ont., died following the crash at Shannonville Motorsports Park on Sunday, Jun. 11, 2023, according to the league.

“Jose Azevedo was a fixture in the paddock, everyone’s friend, and famous for his Portuguese BBQs. We will miss his larger-than-life personality and generous spirit,” the Super Series Motocycle League said on Facebook on Monday, Jun. 12, 2023.

Azevedo was one of five people involved in the motorcycle crash. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), four other racers were treated for injuries when emergency resoponders arrived at the track early on Sunday afternoon. The OPP had not provided any updates on the matter as of 5 p.m. on Monday, Jun. 12, 2023.

One person is dead and four others are being treated for injuries of varying degrees following a crash during a race at Shannonville Motorsports Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the fatal motorcycle crash.

“At 1:46 p.m. today, officers from Lennox and Addington County OPP responded to a five motorcycle collision that occurred during a sanctioned race at Shannonville Motorsport Park,” OPP confirmed in a press release.

“One motorcycle racer was confirmed deceased and four other motorcycle racers were treated at the scene,” OPP said.

The OPP Technical Investigators and Collision Reconstructionist are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
