Following a violent dispute this morning at a residence on County Road 8, an individual from Greater Napanee is in Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) custody.

Just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2021 members of the OPP’s Lennox and Addington (L&A) County detachment and the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded to a 911 call regarding a dispute at a residence on the 2000 block of County Road 8. According to a release from OPP, the information provided to 911 operators was that a person was armed with an edged weapon inside the house and that other occupants had fled.

Responding officers contained the residence and made contact with the suspect inside, who surrendered to officers a short time later, according to the release.

OPP said they cannot identify the weapon at this time, but confirm it was not a knife.

One occupant of the residence was transported to L&A County General Hospital by paramedics for treatment of minor injuries.

James Michael Kelsey, 55 years-old from Greater Napanee, is charged with assault with a weapon.

Kelsey remains in OPP custody and will appear virtually at a bail hearing later today in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee. As the investigation into the incident continues, further charges are possible.
