In response to a reportedly sluggish start to consumer activity in 2022, the Downtown Kingston! BIA is bringing back discounted Downtown Dollars to jumpstart the downtown commercial sector with a special one-day sales event.

In a media release, the BIA said that the Downtown Dollars program, launched in the fall of 2020, was initially developed as a means of delivering customers to downtown businesses as they navigated the reduced foot traffic associated with public health measures and consumer hesitancy.

According to the release, the introduction of a one-day sale is designed not only to motivate the local community to take advantage of the discount, but to also act as a reminder for them to spend the Downtown Dollars they’ve purchased.

“The sale of Downtown Dollars has been tremendously successful. But at this point, it’s critical that people understand that our small businesses don’t benefit from their support until they physically take those dollars in and spend them,” said BIA Executive Director, Marijo Cuerrier. “With assistive programs tapering off, the swift return of customers is essential for businesses to manage their transition out of restrictive health measures.”

The one-day Downtown Dollars Flash Sale will occur on Thursday, Feb. 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Downtown Dollars can also be purchased at face value at any time in $10, $20 & $50 increments, with no expiry date.

Dollars redeemable at over 140 downtown businesses will be available for sale (online only) at a 20 per cent discount. Visit downtownkingston.ca for more information and a full list of participating businesses.
