A building in downtown Kingston with an unsavoury history that precedes it has seen an even more steady police presence over the past 24 hours as officers secured the building and executed a drug search warrant.

Kingston Police executed the warrant on the afternoon of Wednesday, Jul. 14, 2021 at 381 Bagot Street, a Kingston Frontenac Housing Corporation building, resulting in the arrest of a man from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and a warrant for the arrest of a Kingston woman. The process involved the Kingston Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Emergency Response Unit, and Canine Unit.

According to police, the GTA-based man was arrested as the result of an ongoing fentanyl trafficking investigation. During the execution of the warrant, police seized a quantity of cocaine and fentanyl with a street value of approximately $8,000, as well as a semi-automatic Luger 9mm pistol and ammunition.

As a result, Kemar Scarlett, 35, of the GTA, was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with no authority
  • Possession of prohibited ammunition knowing no authority
  • Four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited

As well, an arrest warrant has been issued for Haley Peyman, 31, of Kingston, for the same charges.
