OHL unveils back-to-play timeline

The Ontario Hockey League General Managers met today, Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, and agreed on a back to play timeline. According to a league source who spoke with Kingstonist under the condition of anonymity, the league will open training camps on January 22, 2021 and begin a 40 game regular season on February 24, 2021. The regular season will wrap up on May 16 with 8 teams qualifying for the playoffs instead of the usual 16. The schedule will see teams playing only within their respective conferences in order to cut down on travel.
The playoffs will take place from May 19 through June 14. The Memorial Cup will be held from June 17 to 27.
As with anything these days, this is a fluid situation and subject to change. As of now there is no word on how this schedule will work with the three American based teams if the border remains closed.
The new timeline is as follows;
January 22 – Players report to respective teams.
January 23 – Training camps open.
Jan 29 – 31 – Exhibition games.
February 4 – May 16 – 40 game regular season.
May 19 – June 14 – Playoffs with 8 teams. 4 per conference.
June 5 – OHL Priority Selection (draft)
June 17 – 27 – Memorial Cup
